The Community Police Forum (CPF) of Laudium On Friday and Saturday, 23–24 May 2025, at the Laudium Civic Centre proudly hosted Phase 1 of the Gauteng Provincial School Patroller Induction Programme — a flagship initiative led by the Gauteng Provincial Head of Visible Policing, in collaboration with the Community Policing Forum Board, Department of Community Safety, and the Gauteng Department of Education.
This programme, conducted in two phases, is aimed at empowering Community in Blue patrollers through formal induction and professional development. Phase 1 focused on Siyabangena and school patrollers, while Phase 2 will cover conventional patrollers. In line with SAPS Act 68 of 1995 (Chapter 7), the SAPS has a legal mandate to establish and support CPF structures, and this event reflects the importance of collaborative policing with key government stakeholders.
Laudium was selected as the host venue for this district-level induction — a clear vote of confidence in the organisational strength, reliability, and leadership of the Laudium CPF.
In a moment of community pride, Ward 61 Councillor Naeem Patel delivered the official welcome. As a longstanding advocate for community empowerment and safety, Councillor Patel’s involvement underscored the critical role local leadership plays in strengthening partnerships and uplifting our area.
High praise is due to Shaheen Wahab, Chairperson of the Laudium CPF and Tshwane West Subdistrict, whose tireless dedication and exceptional coordination ensured the seamless hosting of this major provincial engagement. His leadership continues to position Laudium CPF as a benchmark for excellence and accountability within the CPF structures.
During the session, officials from SAPS, Community Safety, and the Department of Education led critical discussions, focusing on:
• Safe and effective patrolling practices
• Legal boundaries and responsibilities of patrollers
• Crime scene etiquette and how to assist SAPS
• Accurate and timely reporting to CPF and SAPS structures
• Understanding the patroller’s role as the eyes and ears of law enforcement — not a substitute
• And many other key topics essential for safe and efficient community policing
This event was more than just a training — it was a powerful affirmation. For those who question the relevance or effectiveness of the Laudium CPF, this endorsement from Gauteng Provincial leadership speaks volumes.
We remain committed to building a safer, united Laudium — grounded in partnership, professionalism, and purpose.
