City of Tshwane Officials Arrested Following Attempted Transformer Theft in Laudium

Laudium CPF welcomes the recent arrests made by the Organised Crime Unit in connection with the attempted theft of a transformer that took place on 27 November 2024 at the Claudius Substation. Among those arrested are employees of the City of Tshwane, highlighting the alarming extent of criminal activity within service delivery structures.

During the incident, suspects posing as Tshwane officials were caught in the act while attempting to remove the transformer. The theft was interrupted and stopped on scene through a swift and coordinated response by the Laudium CPF, Ward Councillor’s Office, Laudium Disaster Management (LDM), and the Ward 61 Residents Association. The matter was immediately escalated to the Organised Crime Unit, who took over the investigation.

We are pleased with the additional arrests that have followed, and we believe this outcome sends a strong and clear message: corruption and criminal conduct, regardless of rank or position, will not be tolerated in Laudium and surrounding areas.
