The rise of online crimes has forced a stronger response from law enforcement and community structures. The Cybercrimes Act 19 of 2020 now provides clear legal consequences for criminal activity committed through phones, computers, or the internet.

⚖️ What is the Cybercrimes Act?

This law criminalizes acts such as:

  • Hacking
  • Spreading false information
  • Cyberbullying and threats
  • Online scams and fraud
  • Sharing private images without consent
  • Inciting violence or property damage online
  • Possessing or using hacking tools

👥 Important Message to Social Media Admins

If you’re an admin for WhatsApp groups, Facebook pages, or community forums:

  • You must remove harmful posts immediately.
  • Failing to act can result in you being charged for aiding or abetting a cybercrime.
  • Admins can be prosecuted under Section 17 of the Act.
