About Community in Blue
The Community in Blue is an initiative of the South African Police Service, with the goal of elevating all Community Policing Forums to the level the law intended, by close vetting and training of Community Policing Forum members to ensure high standards of protocol and action.
The Laudium Community in Blue members will still fall under and be accountable to the CPF and assume the objectives of the CPF and Board as stated in section 18(1) of the South African Police Service Act, 1995 (Act No.68 of 1995).
Our Community Policing Strategy
The Community Policing Strategy through the Community in Blue programme, aims to operationalise the concept of community policing with a view of stimulating active citizenry and citizen participation in the fight against crime.
The Community Policing Strategy is thus a strategic policy platform to get all communities to get involved in the fight against crime. To efficiently reduce crime, it is necessary to transform and reorganise government and facilitate real community participation.
Strategic Aims
This strategy aims to mobilize all communities in Laudium to join the fight against crime and actively participate in endeavors to prevent, combat and fight crime:
Moral Awareness
Build a community that is morally alert through community outreach, education and awareness programs.
Crime Resilience
Increase resilience to victimization through building community resilience to crime.
Stakeholder Collaboration
Build interrelation between safety and security stakeholders through multidisciplinary collaboration.
Public Order
Involve and empower all formalized community structures in ensuring public order.
Communication
Acquaint the community about crime fighting initiatives within the SAPS.
Resource Development
Capacitate and resource Community Policing Forum structures in Laudium.
With the active participation of all communities across Laudium, the Community Policing Strategy will be implemented with the aim of maximizing the involvement of citizens in the fight against crime.
Community in Blue Programme
The Community in Blue programme emphasizes the importance of involving the community in safety and policing related matters through the assistance of community patrollers. Community in Blue patrollers will be more involved in structured community safety initiatives and formal police-community partnerships.

How is CIB Different from Neighbourhood Watches?
Community In Blue takes Neighbourhood Watches one step further, by ensuring that its members are above board and beyond reproach in all activities, as well as conducting and upholding the protocol.
This involves vetting by the CPF Exco, as well as Station Management, and will involve a full background check and fingerprint before being enrolled. This not only ensures our own CPF’s integrity but demonstrates transparency, and a spirit of collaboration with our local police station.
Enhanced Training
Community In Blue members undergo specific training to ensure that they are well-trained and prepared to support the community they are in. This training covers legal aspects, community engagement strategies, and proper protocols for working with SAPS.
